Amphoe Nong Chik ( Thai : อำเภอ หนองจิก ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district) in Pattani Province . The Pattani Province is located in the southeast of the southern region of Thailand on the Gulf of Thailand .

geography

Neighboring counties and areas are (clockwise from east): Amphoe Mueang Pattani , Yarang , Mae Lan and Khok Pho in Pattani Province and Amphoe Thepha in Songkhla Province . In the north lies the Gulf of Thailand .

history

Nong Chik was one of the seven city-states ( mueang ) into which the Pattani Kingdom was divided in the early 19th century to break the power of the often rebellious Sultan of Pattani. The administration was initially in Tambon Nong Mai in Yarang County, but in 1901 it was moved to Tu Yong, where it is still located today.

Since the administrative building of the district was in Tuyong, the district was renamed Tuyong in 1917. In 1938 it was renamed again to its historical name Nong Chik.

Attractions

  • Ratchadaphisek Beach ( หาด รัชดาภิเษก ) - Sandy beach about 2 km north of the district capital. Pine trees provide shade on the edge of the beach.

Local administration

There are two small towns ( Thesaban Tambon ) in the county:

  • Bo Thong ( เทศบาล ตำบล บ่อ ทอง ) consists of the entire Tambon Bo Thong and parts of the Tambon Kayu Boko,
  • Nong Chik ( เทศบาล ตำบล หนองจิก ) consists of parts of the Tambon Tu Yong.

There are also eleven “tambon administration organizations” (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ) for the tambon or the parts of tambon in the county that do not belong to any city.
