Amphoe Si Satchanalai ( Thai : อำเภอ ศรีสัชนาลัย ) is a district ( amphoe - administrative district) in Sukhothai Province . Sukhothai Province is located in the northern region of Thailand . The most important city, in which the seat of the district administration is also located, is also called Si Satchanalai .

location

The city is located about 50 kilometers north of the provincial capital Sukhothai on the Mae Nam Yom (Yom River) .

Neighboring counties (clockwise from southwest): Si Nakhon , Sawankhalok and Thung Saliam district in Sukhothai province, Thoen district in Lampang province , Wang Chin district in Phrae province, and Laplae and Tron district in Uttaradit province .

history

In the 18th century, the historic Si Satchanalai was captured and destroyed by the Burmese army. The residents were relocated to nearby Sawankhalok . The fields of ruins in the old Si Satchanalai have been restored since 1990, initially the city wall, the royal palace and Wat Chang Lom.

The county was renamed from Hat Siao to Si Satchanalai in 1939.

Local administration

Si Satchanalai (Thai: เทศบาล เมือง ศรีสัชนาลัย ) is a town ( Thesaban Mueang ) in the county. It consists of the entire Tambon Si Satchanalai and Tha Chai as well as parts of Nong O.

There is also a small town ( Thesaban Tambon ) :

  • Hat Siao (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล หาด เสี้ยว ), consisting of parts of the Tambon Hat Siao,

There are also eight “Tambon Administrative Organizations” (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) for the tambon in the district that do not belong to any city.
