history

In the past, the administration building was in Mueang Thung Yang. It was later moved to Mon Cham Sin, about a kilometer north of the current location. Since the administration was difficult to reach, Luang Si Phanon Mat decided to move it to Mon Sayammin. At the same time, King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) visited Laplae. He wanted to reserve Mon Cham Sin for the location of a Buddha statue named "Phra Luea" ( พระ เหลือ ), which had been poured from the gold that was left over from the "Phra Phuttha Chinnarat" of Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat ( Phitsanulok Province ) stayed.

Phra Borommathat Thung Yang

There are three major Buddhist temples in Tambon Thung Yang.

Wat Phra Thaen Sila At is a 3rd class royal temple and one of the landmarks of the province of Uttaradit (shown in the seal of the province). The most important place of worship is a laterite seat , the base of which is decorated with a golden lotus flower pattern. It probably comes from the Sukhothai era and was made according to a legend that the Bodhisattva , one of the earlier incarnations of the Buddha, is said to have sat here meditating. The former temple burned down in 1908, only the stone seat survived. The temple was rebuilt by order of King Rama V (Chulalongkorn).

About 500 m away is Wat Phra Yuen Phutthabat Yukhon . A representation of a footprint of the Buddha and a bronze statue of the Buddha in the posture of "Submission of the Mara" from the Sukhothai era are shown.

Another 1.5 km away in the small town of Thung Yang is Wat Phra Borommathat Thung Yang . Its prominent features include a Lan-Na style Wihan and a bell-shaped stupa that is said to house a relic of the Buddha.
