particularities |
The Amsoldingersee is a lake in the upper Gürbetal near Thun in the canton of Bern , Switzerland .
The lake has an area of 38 hectares and is, apart from Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, the next largest body of water in the region. It has a maximum length of over one kilometer and is around 500 meters wide at its widest point, but only a maximum of 14 meters deep.
location
The Amsoldingersee is located at an altitude of 641 meters only a few kilometers west of the city of Thun, whereby it is almost 100 meters higher than the city. It belongs entirely to the municipality of Amsoldingen . To the west lies the foot of the north slope of the Stockhorn (2,190 m). The lake itself is located exactly on the edge of the Alps . The only visible tributary is a stream from the Uebeschisee , which is about 500 meters north. The lake is mainly fed by drainage and subterranean seepage. There are a few smaller streams, especially on the west bank. The outflow takes place through the Wahlenbach towards Thierachern . From Uetendorf this becomes the Amletenbach and then flows into the Glütschbach and in Uttigen into the Aare .
Surroundings
The lake area and the shore zone is a nature reserve and is completely surrounded by trees and reeds . Amsoldingen Castle, which is privately owned, is located at the east end. The lake has two small islands, the first, larger one consisting only of reeds, while the other is connected to the shore by a small bridge. However, this is not officially accessible as it still belongs to the private castle area.
use
Because of the nature reserve, any driving with boats or fishing in the lake is prohibited. As in the neighboring Uebeschisee, bathing is prohibited. In addition, there is also a perimeter over the moorland, which represents a further protective character.
Emergence
The lake was probably created by the Aare glacier, which also left behind the moraine hill in Thun's Westamt.
