When it was founded, the Warburg district was divided into administrative districts, the administration of which was initially carried out by mayors and / or cantonal officials. As part of the introduction of the Westphalian rural community order , offices were set up in the Prussian province of Westphalia at the beginning of the 1840s. In 1843, the Gehrden office was created from the then existing mayor 's office.

Between 1845 and 1852, the Natingen community moved to the Borgholz office .

In 1857/58 the Gehrden office was combined with the municipalities of Altenheerse , Dringenberg , Kühlsen , Neuenheerse and Willebadessen from the Dringenberg office to form the new Dringenberg-Gehrden office .
