The Office Rothenkirchen (also called Administration Rothenkirchen ) was an administrative area of the Hochstift Bamberg , a direct imperial territory in the Holy Roman Empire . The Bamberg Monastery, which was assigned to the Franconian Empire , was a clerical principality that existed until 1802.

history

The area of the later office of Rothenkirchen formed an independent manor until 1668 . When the last owner Hans Veit von Würtzburg sold it that year , it came into Bamberg ownership and then formed an independent office, the territorial and legal structure of which remained almost unchanged until the end of the bishopric.

geography

The office located in the northeast of the Bamberg dominion was one of the smaller Bamberg offices. It was surrounded exclusively by other Hochstiftischen areas and lay in the northwestern area of a large Bamberg exclave , the main town of which was the city of Kronach . Its neighboring offices in Bamberg were the Teuschnitz office in the northeast, the Kronach office in the southeast and the Fürth am Berg office in the south. The entire western border of the Rothenkirchen office was closed by an elongated strip of territory, the two main places of which were the villages of Friedersdorf and Welitsch and which formed an exclave of the Kronach office.

structure

The administration of the Rothenkirchen office consisted of a bailiwick office , a tax office and a caste office . Originally a Centamt was part of it, but this function was later taken over by Centamt Teuschnitz .

Official seat

The administrative seat of the office was in the former market town of Rothenkirchen , which today forms a district of Pressig . The administration was initially housed in the local castle and was later moved to a specially built office building.

Office administration

The office management was formed by a bailiff , who also acted as castler and tax collector. The Vogt took on these tasks in personal union with his function as city , district and center judge of Teuschnitz . The official staff also included a servant and a mayor in Rothenkirchen and Pressig.

Bailiwick Office

The Vogteiamt Rothenkirchen was one of the 54  Vogteiamts of the Bishopric Bamberg. Its bailiwick district comprised the village markings of Rothenkirchen and Pressig as well as the deserted areas of Haidelsmühle , Hessenmühle and Obere Mühle .

Tax office

The Rothenkirchen tax office was one of the 46 tax offices of the Bamberg Monastery. The spatial sphere of activity of the tax office was congruent with that of the Rothenkirchen Bailiwick Office.

Caste office

The Rothenkirchen caste office was one of the 24 caste offices of the Bamberg monastery.
