Wallenfels Office
The Wallenfels Office was an administrative area of the Bamberg Monastery , an imperial territory in the Holy Roman Empire . The Bamberg Monastery, which was assigned to the Franconian Empire , was a clerical principality that existed until 1802.
geography
The office in the northeast of the Bamberg dominion was one of the smaller high estates offices. It was located in the eastern area of a large Bamberg exclave , the main town of which was the city of Kronach . Its neighboring areas in Bamberg belonged to the offices of Kronach , Nordhalben , Stadtsteinach and Wartenfels . Neighboring territories belonging to the Principality of Bayreuth were the Lichtenberg Office in the northeast and the Seibelsdorf Office in the southwest. In addition, controlled areas marginalized even by direct imperial nobility to the office area, most notably the the Canton mountains of the Frankish knights circle belonging domination Wildenstein .
history
After the counts of Andechs died out in 1248, the area of what would later become the Wallenfels office came into the possession of the Bamberg Monastery as a fallen fief . The establishment of the Wallenfels office then probably took place around 1330.

The administration of the Wallenfels Office consisted of a Bailiwick Office , a Tax Office and a Central Office .
Official seat
The administrative seat of the office was from the beginning in today's city of Wallenfels , which at that time was still a market town .
Office administration
The office management was formed by a bailiff , who also acted as central judge and tax collector . The official staff also included a clerk , a servant and a mayor each in Dörnach, Geuser, Haid, Neuengrün, Schnaid, Wellesberg and Wolfersgrün. The administrative seat of the office was in the market town of Wallenfels .

The economic importance of the office for the bishopric of Bamberg was relatively low and was therefore listed as Amt I class (out of 5). The tax revenue of the tax office averaged 968 during the term of office of Peter Philipp von Dernbach (1672–1683) and 638 Franconian guilders per year during the term of office of Marquard Sebastian Schenk von Stauffenberg (1683–1693) .
Mining Authority
The mining law in the Wallenfels office was of economic importance. Initially the caste office was responsible for this. A separate mining office was set up in the second half of the 18th century . From 1796 it was subordinate to the Upper Mining College.
