The Eggolsheim Office (or Eggolsheim-Senftenberg Office ) was an administrative area of the Bamberg bishopric , a direct imperial territory in the Holy Roman Empire . The Bamberg Monastery, which was assigned to the Franconian Empire , was a clerical principality that existed until the beginning of the 19th century.

geography

The office, located in the southwest of the Bamberg dominion, was one of the smaller high estates offices. It was almost completely surrounded by other Bamberg offices. These were the offices of Bechhofen , Ebermannstadt , Forchheim , Hallstadt , Memmelsdorf and Schlüsselau or parts of them ( exclaves ). In and around the Eggolsheimer office only a few fremdherrische territories, such as existed Neuses at the Regnitz , in the village of denunciation , the Principality of Bayreuth the village and community domination exercised (DGH).

history

Together with a few other possessions, Eggolsheim came into the possession of the Bamberg Monastery for the first time in 1017. This was part of an exchange contract, the first bambergische Bishop Eberhard I the Würzburg Bishop Henry I had completed. In the period that followed, the Counts of Andechs-Meranien were able to establish themselves in this area and, when they died out in 1248, they owned the Senftenberg Castle , which served as the official seat of their possessions. Her legacy in the Eggolsheim area was taken over by the von Schlüsselberg noble family . When these also died out in 1347, their possessions were divided between the Bamberg and Würzburg dioceses . During the second half of the 14th century, the Bamberg bishopric was gradually able to secure sole ownership, which was finally largely achieved in 1384.

structure

The administration of the Eggolsheim office consisted of an Oberamt , a Vogteiamt , a tax office , a caste office and a Centamt . The Bamberg bailiff who administered the office had resided at Senftenberg Castle until 1525. After this castle was captured and destroyed by rebel farmers during the German Peasant War , the administrative headquarters were moved to Eggolsheim.

The tax revenue of the tax office averaged 3988 during the term of office of Peter Philipp von Dernbach (1672-1683) and 2919 Franconian guilders per year during the term of office of Marquard Sebastian Schenk von Stauffenberg (1683-1693) .
