The Scheßlitz office (also known as Pflege Giech ) was an administrative area of ​​the Bamberg monastery , a direct imperial territory in the Holy Roman Empire . The Bamberg Monastery, which was assigned to the Franconian Empire , was a clerical principality that existed until 1802.

The office, located in the northeast of the Bamberg dominion, was one of the larger high esteem offices. It was almost completely surrounded by other Bamberg offices. These were the offices of Hallstadt , Hollfeld , Lichtenfels , Memmelsdorf , Weismain , and Zapfendorf or sub-areas ( exclaves ) thereof.

history

For a long time, the Scheßlitz area formed an enclave within the Bamberg dominion, which was controlled by the Counts of Truhendingen , who resided at Giech Castle . It was not until 1382 and 1390 that the bishopric succeeded in completely acquiring this territory.

Tax office

The Scheßlitz tax office was one of the 46 tax offices of the Bamberg monastery. The spatial sphere of activity of the tax office was congruent with that of the Scheßlitzer Vogteiamt.

The economic importance of the office for the Bamberg monastery was great. It was the second most profitable office and was therefore listed as Amt IV class (out of 5). The tax revenues of the tax office averaged 6931 during the term of office of Peter Philipp von Dernbach (1672–1683) and 6830 Franconian guilders per year during the term of office of Marquard Sebastian Schenk von Stauffenberg (1683–1693) .
