The Burgellern Office (or Burgellern Cathedral Provincial Office ) was a mediator of the Bamberg Monastery , a direct imperial territory in the Holy Roman Empire . The Bamberg Monastery, which was assigned to the Franconian Empire , was a clerical principality that existed until 1802.

geography

The office in the north-east of the Bamberg dominion was one of the smallest high estates offices. It was almost completely surrounded by other Bamberg offices. This mainly concerned the offices of Scheßlitz and Memmelsdorf or parts of them ( exclaves ). Single fremdherrisches neighboring territory was to Burglesau located manor Burglesau that the Baron Egloffstein to Kunreuth shelter and Canton mountains of the Frankish knights circle belonged.

history

The core of the Burgellern office is probably identical with a village called "Alren". This unspecified place was bought back in 1137 by Bishop Otto von Bamberg . Burgellern was later mentioned as a manor owned by the noble family of the Förtsche von Thurnau . In 1565 it came into Bamberg ownership when it was sold to the bishopric by the heirs of Georg Förtsch von Peesten . Six years later, he sold it on to the Bamberg Cathedral Provost for 10,500 Rhenish guilders , making it a highly esteemed media.

structure

The administration consisted of a bailiwick office and a tax office .

Official seat

The administrative seat of the cathedral provost's office was located in the Burgellern administrative building, which was built in the Burgellern palace gardens in the second half of the 18th century .

Official staff

The office management was formed by a provost of the cathedral provost, who also acted as a princely tax collector . This was supported in his official business by a servant .

Bailiwick Office

The Burgellern Bailiwick was one of the 54  bailiwick offices of the Bamberg Monastery . Its bailiwick district comprised the following village markings and localities in which village and community rule (DGH) was exercised:

The bailiwick district of the Burgellern office was almost entirely within the high court district of the Scheßlitz Central Office . In all places within this district, the cathedral provost's office had been granted the right to use limited cents . The hamlet of Doschendorf, on the other hand, was the responsibility of the Centamt Memmelsdorf and in this place the cathedral provost office was not able to enforce the right to the limited cents.

Tax office

The Burgellern Tax Office was one of the 46 tax offices of the Bamberg Monastery. The spatial sphere of activity of the tax office was congruent with that of the Burgellerner Vogteiamt.

The economic importance of the office for the bishopric of Bamberg was very low, it was therefore listed as Amt I class (out of 5). The tax income of the provost's office averaged 506 during the term of office of Peter Philipp von Dernbach (1672–1683) and 487 Franconian guilders per year during the term of office of Marquard Sebastian Schenk von Stauffenberg (1683–1693) (with an overall average of all offices of 2290 and . 1943 Franconian guilder).
