The Stadtsteinach office was an administrative area of ​​the Bamberg bishopric , a direct imperial territory in the Holy Roman Empire . The Bamberg Monastery, which was assigned to the Franconian Empire , was a clerical principality that existed until the beginning of the 19th century.

Tax office

The Stadtsteinach Tax Office was one of the 46 tax offices of the Bamberg Monastery. The spatial sphere of activity of the tax office was congruent with that of the Stadtsteinacher Vogteiamt.

The economic importance of the office for the bishopric of Bamberg was relatively great. It was one of the eight most profitable offices and was therefore led to the end of the 17th century as Amt II class (out of 5). During the term of office of Marquard Sebastian Schenk von Stauffenberg (1683–1693), the tax revenue of the tax office averaged 3234 Franconian guilders per year, with an annual average of all offices of 1943 guilders.

Caste office

The Stadtsteinach caste office was one of the 24 caste offices of the Bamberg monastery. It not only exercised the manorial affairs in the Stadtsteinach bailiwick district, but also in those of the offices of Kupferberg and Marktschorgast.

The mining law in the Stadtsteinach office was of economic importance. Initially the caste office was responsible for this. A separate mining office was set up in the second half of the 18th century . From 1796 it was subordinate to the Upper Mining College.
