The Memmelsdorf Office was an administrative area of ​​the Bamberg Monastery , a direct imperial territory in the Holy Roman Empire . The Bamberg Monastery in the Franconian Empire was a clerical principality that existed until the beginning of the 19th century.

The office in the west of the Bamberg dominion was one of the medium-sized high estates. It was almost completely surrounded by the other Bamberg offices of Bamberg , Baunach , Eggolsheim , Hallstadt , Scheßlitz and Zapfendorf or sub-areas ( exclaves ) thereof.

In the land register A of the Bamberg bishopric, Memmelsdorf is referred to in the officium camerarii as "curia", in the land register B, however, as "officium". During the 15th and 16th centuries, the Memmelsdorf Office was temporarily pledged several times by the Hochstift.

Official seat

The seat of the Memmelsdorf administrative office was in Memmelsdorf , where a bailiwick house was built in the 18th century . Seehof Castle , located southwest of the outskirts, did not house any administrative organs of the Memmelsdorf office, but served the Bamberg prince-bishops as a summer residence.

Official staff

Bailiwick Office

The Memmelsdorf Vogteiamt was one of the 54  Vogteiamts of the Bamberg Monastery . The bailiwick district of the Memmelsdorf office was the most fragmented district of the entire bishopric. In addition to a comparatively small core area around Memmelsdorf, this comprised more than a dozen exclaves that were northwest, east and southeast of Memmelsdorf. Its bailiwick district comprised the following village markings and localities:

Amlingstadt , Friesen , Gundelsheim , Kalteneggolsfeld , Leesten, Melkendorf , Memmelsdorf, Mistendorf , Roßdach , Schammelsdorf , Seehof, Teuchatz , Tiefenpölz , Weichenwasserlos , and Wernsdorf .

In addition, the part of Schmerldorf , west of the Leithenbach, belonged to the bailiwick district , in which the Memmelsdorfer Amt exercised the village and community rule (DGH). The part east of the stream was assigned to the Scheßlitzer Vogteiamt .

Tax office

The Memmelsdorf Tax Office was one of the 46 tax offices of the Bamberg Monastery. Its spatial sphere of activity was congruent with that of the Memmelsdorf bailiwick office.

The economic importance of the office for the bishopric of Bamberg was relatively great. It was one of the eight most profitable offices and was run as Amt II class (of 5) at the end of the 17th century. The tax revenue of the tax office averaged in the term of office of Peter Philipp von Dernbach (1672-1683) 4421 and in the term of office of Marquard Sebastian Schenk von Stauffenberg (1683-1693) 3246 Franconian guilders per year.
