Weigelshofen is a district of the Eggolsheim market in the Upper Franconian district of Forchheim .

The place is in the Eggerbach valley, at the lowest point at 288  m , the highest point is 500  m above sea level. Weigelshofen is a typical Franconian cluster village .

history

The origins of the place can only be assumed based on the name. Settlement names with the basic word -hofen originated in the second phase of the Franconian land development around 700. When it was first mentioned in a document in 1007 in the deed of donation from Heinrich II to the newly founded diocese of Bamberg , the place was called "Witlolfeshoua" (court of Witlolf). Together with Weigelshofen, other places from the Forchheim royal estate are named in the deed of donation. These are Trubach , Thuisbrunn , Hetzelsdorf, twice Ehrenbach, Wellerstadt, Kleinseebach , Möhrendorf , Hausen, Heroldsbach , twice Wimmelbach and Schlierbach (today's Burk, a district of Forchheim ). It is noticeable that Weigelshofen comes first of the 14 places mentioned; In the documents of the Middle Ages, it was important where places or people were named. So it cannot have been an insignificant settlement, it can be assumed that it was a noble residence. Another documentary mention of the place with the spelling "Wideleshoua" took place in 1062.

On July 1, 1972, Weigelshofen was incorporated into the Eggolsheim market .

church

St. Georg Weigelshofen

Weigelshofen belonged to the mother parish Eggolsheim until 1812. The secularization brought a significant change for Weigel Resort in the parish organization. On December 20, 1812, the parish to Drosendorf am Eggerbach was completed. The desire to have one's own house of worship was ancient in Weigelshofen. As the only parish in the Eggerbachgrund, it had not become a parish. After a failed attempt in 1920/21, the Second Mayor Johann Georg Nagengast was able to convince the local council in January 1949 to start building the chapel again. The groundbreaking ceremony followed on May 25 of the same year.

The solemn benediction was performed on October 14, 1950 by Pastor Adam Gunselmann von Drosendorf. On February 2, 1987, the elevation to the Catholic Filialkirchenstiftung St. Georg Weigelshofen took place. The resolution of the church administration of the mother church foundation Mariä Visitation Drosendorf am Eggerbach from 1986 was approved by the Archbishop's Ordinariate in Bamberg.
