The Wittmund District Court is one of five district courts in the Aurich District Court district . It is based in Wittmund in Lower Saxony . The judicial district covers the entire district of Wittmund . The Aurich Regional Court is superior to it. The competent higher regional court is the higher regional court in Oldenburg .

history

After the revolution of 1848 was the Kingdom of Hanover , the jurisdiction of the administration separated and the patrimonial abolished. The district court was then founded with the ordinance of August 7, 1852 regarding the formation of the district courts and lower administrative authorities as a royal Hanover district court. It included the Wittmund office . The district court was subordinate to the Aurich Higher Court . With the annexation of Hanover by Prussia , it became a Prussian district court in the province of Hanover . The district court district Friedeburg was assigned to the district Wittmund in 1959, since 1983 the district court district Esens was administered from Wittmund, 2001 the branch Esens was closed.

The old office building was built in 1764. The current official building was erected in 1872, the old building was demolished in 1880.
