An American Prayer is a music album by the American rock band The Doors . It was created in 1978, five years after the band broke up, when the former band members who were still alive got together to record the album. Recordings of the singer Jim Morrison , who died in 1971 and who recited from his volume of poetry, also entitled An American Prayer , were placed over the music . Morrison self- published this in 1970 (500 copies).
Guest musicians include Reinol Andino (percussion), Bob Glaub and Jerry Scheff (both bass). The three Doors musicians John Haeny and Frank Lisciandro also appeared as producers .
In its year of release, the album reached number 54 on the US pop album charts .
