The Soft Parade is The Doors' fourth album . It was published in July 1969.

history

The album contained brass and string arrangements and received criticism for it. Due to the increasing alcohol consumption of Jim Morrison , guitarist Robbie Krieger had a stronger presence on the album. The increasing disinterest of Morrisons and his alcohol problem were also reflected in the production time, which took almost a year. For the title track, which lasts more than eight minutes, the band mixed rock with poetry, while Wild Child is dominated by hard rock . Contrary to the practice on previous albums, this is the first time that the band as a whole is not mentioned as a composer, but rather individual band members.

criticism

Robert Christgau wrote: "No one even thinks about the Doors any more - such is fame - but this is an acceptable record, with predictable pretensions and two or three first-rate songs (" Touch Me, "" Wild Child ") . Nothing to get excited about, either way. "The Allmusic site gave the album 3 out of 5 stars and wrote:" The weakest studio album recorded with Jim Morrison in the group, partially because their experiments with brass and strings on about half the tracks weren 't entirely successful. ”Similar assessments can be found in various places, but it is noticeable that of all things Touch Me, orchestrated with strings and brass section , rose to number 3 on the Billboard charts.
