The Crystal Ship is a song by the Doors that was released on the album The Doors in 1967 .

history

Jim Morrison wrote the song in the fall of 1965. According to drummer John Densmore , he wrote the love song after breaking up with his girlfriend Mary Werbelow in the fall of 1965.

The piece is said to have been inspired by the Holly oil rig off the coast of Isla Vista near Santa Barbara , which Morrison saw on the beach one night. The rig looked like a crystal ship when it was lit.

Others

In 1989, the song was in the movie True Believer with James Woods and Robert Downey Jr. used. In the X-Files - The Movie , Fox Mulder hears the song during a self-discovery crisis in a bar. The song was also used in the 14th episode of the second Supernatural season.

From the 1970s to the early 1980s , there was a Doors cover band from New Jersey called "The Crystal Ship".
