reception

Charts

Anarchy was able to reach number 4 on the US charts. Busta Rhyme's fourth album stayed on the Billboard 200 for fourteen weeks . In Germany, the album entered 63rd place and stayed in the charts for four weeks. Furthermore, the rapper occupied the positions 87 in the Netherlands, 65 in Switzerland, 54 in France and 50 in New Zealand.

criticism

Entertainment Weekly found in contrast to the reviews of the first Busta Rhymes albums with the grade "C-" a more negative rating for Anarchy . Much of the music on the album is little more interesting than Morse code. Busta Rhymes runs the risk of becoming better known for his image and his hairstyle than for his music (" he's in danger of being better known for his cartoonish image and dreadlocked ponytail than for his music ").

A review for the All Music Guide came from Steve Huey. He believes that the best moments on the Anarchy album are as brilliant as the rapper's earlier recordings. Nevertheless, there are signs that Rhymes' recipe for success is wearing out (" Its best moments are as brilliant as ever, but there are also signs that Busta's winning formula is starting to show a little wear and tear. "). Many songs are still “incredible”, but stylistically resemble older pieces.
