criticism

Entertainment Weekly gave Genesis a “B” grade . Despite some monotonous parts of the album, Genesis is a great start for Rhymes on his new label J Records .

Bradley Torreano wrote a review for All Music Guide in which he Genesis praised. The beats on the album seem "darker" and more "synthesizer-oriented" than Rhymes' earlier albums. This reminds Genesis of the style of G-Funk (" This time around the beats seem darker and more synth-oriented, giving it an edge reminiscent of the bass-heavy G-funk sound. "). The only questionable title on the album is a remake of the Public Enemy song Shut 'Em Down .
