Christian Sjaastad is different

Anders Christian Sjaastad (born February 21, 1942 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian politician of the conservative Høyre , who was a member of the Storting for twelve years and Minister of Defense in the Willoch government between 1981 and 1986 . He has also written numerous specialist books and articles on foreign and security policy topics.

Life

Political scientist and member of the Storting

Sjaastad, son of the average commissioner Andreas Sjaastad and the housewife Ingrid Mørk, graduated in 1962 with a degree in political science , which he completed in 1969 with a Magister Artium . During his student days he was chairman of the Conservative Student Union in 1965 and chairman of the Norwegian Student Union in 1967.

After working on a research fellowship at the Institute for Political Science at the University of Oslo from 1968 to 1970, he worked as a research scientist at the Norwegian Foreign Policy Institute NUPI ( Norsk Utenrikspolitisk Institutt ) from 1970 , where he was head of the public relations department between 1973 and 1981. In this he was also the editor of Norsk Utenrikspolitisk Årbok 1975 . Between 1977 and 1987 he was 1st Vice-Chairman of Høyre in Oslo.

After Sjaastad was a deputy member of the Storting between 1981 and 1985, he was elected for the first time as a member of the Storting in the 1985 parliamentary elections as a candidate of the Høyre and represented the interests of Oslo until the parliamentary election of September 12, 1997 . He was then from 1997 to the parliamentary election of September 10, 2001 again deputy member of the Storting for Oslo.

Defense Minister and 2nd Vice-President of the Odelsting

On October 14, 1981, Sjaastad was appointed Minister of Defense ( Statsråd, Forsvarsdepartementet ) in his government by State Minister (Prime Minister) Kåre Willoch and held this ministerial office until his replacement on April 25, 1986 by his party friend Rolf Presthus . During this time Gustav Heiberg Simonsen , Hans Henrik Ramm , Hallfrid Nybø and again Hans Henrik Ramm worked as his representatives in the store.

After leaving the government, he was a member of the Storting Committee for Transport and Communication from May 1986 to September 1993 and a member of the Storting Presidium from October 1989 to September 1993. In addition, from 1987 to 1989 he was the second deputy chairman of the European Movement International in Norway ( Europabevegelsen i Norge ) and was chairman of this organization between 1989 and 1992.

On October 11, 1993 he became 2nd Vice President of Odelsting , a body consisting of 3/4 of the members of Storting until October 1, 2009, and held this office until September 30, 1997.

During this time he was also vice-chairman of the justice committee of the Storting and then from January 1997 to 2001 delegate of the General Assembly of the United Nations . At the same time Sjaastad was between 1996 and 2000 he was chairman of the Høyre in Oslo. Sjaastad was again a research scientist at the NUPI between 1998 and 2003 and has been a senior advisor there ever since.
