Andes is a hamlet and a former village and census-designated place (CDP) in Delaware County of the US state New York . At the time of the 2010 United States Census , Andes had 252 residents. Andes is on Route 28 and is the only significant location in the Town of Andes .

The hamlet of Andes is located in the northern part of the Town of Andes at 42 ° 11 ′  N , 74 ° 47 ′  W (42.1886976, −74.7857138), at an altitude of 487  m . State Route 28 leads northwest to the Village of Delhi , 12 miles away , the county seat of Delaware Counties, and southeast to the Village of Margaretville, 11 miles away .

According to the United States Census Bureau , Andes has an area of ​​3.09 km 2 , all land. The village is home to the Andes Historic District and Andes Railroad Station , both of which are on the National Register of Historic Places .

history

On January 3, 1861, Andes was incorporated as a Village. Most of the village was destroyed in a village fire in 1878.

In a vote on June 3, 2002, the residents decided to dissolve the village with 81 to 63 votes. It was therefore dissolved on December 31, 2003.

Demographics

At the time of the United States Census 2000, Andes had 289 people. The population density was 97.9 people per km 2 . There were 161 residential units, an average of 54.5 per km 2 . The population in Andes was 96.89% White , 0.69% Black or African American , 0% Native American , 0.35% Asian , 0% Pacific Islander , 1.73% said they were racial , and 0 , 35% named two or more races. 3.11% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latinos of any race.

The residents of Andess were distributed to 132 households out of which 22.7% had children under 18 years of age. 46.2% of households were married, 6.1% had a female head of the household without a husband and 42.4% were not families. 37.9% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 21.2% of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.19 and the average family size was 2.87 people.

The population was divided into 18.7% minors, 10.7% 18–24 year olds, 25.6% 25–44 year olds, 22.1% 45–64 year olds and 22.8% aged 65 years or more. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 women there were 114.1 men. For every 100 women over 18, there were 115.6 men.

The median household income in Andes was 32,857 US dollars and the median family income reached the height of 47,500 US dollars. The median income for men was $ 28,281 compared to $ 23,333 for women. The per capita income was $ 22,716. 7.6% of the population and 6.8% of families had an income below the poverty line , including 3.6% of minors and 2.7% of those aged 65 and over.
