André Lombard (born September 19, 1950 in Bern ) is a five-time Swiss champion in chess .

Chess career

Lombard was Switzerland's junior champion in 1965 and qualified for both the European youth championship (in which he participated again in 1969) and the U20 world championship . He subsequently won the Swiss individual championship in Lucerne in 1969 , in Riehen in 1970 , in Weggis in 1973 , in Wettingen in 1974 and in Muttenz in 1977 . He has been an international master since 1976 . In the same year he took part in the interzonal tournament in Biel . From 1970 to 1978 he represented Switzerland at all five Chess Olympiads , and he also took part in the 1973 European Team Championship . He played in the clubs of Birseck , Biel, Bern and Réti Zurich and was team champion a total of six times: 1970 with Birseck, 1977 and 1986 with Biel, 1998 with Bern and 2011 and 2013 with Réti Zurich.

From 1994 to 1996 he was in charge of the Swiss women's national team. Then he trained the youngsters in the Bern region until 1999.

From 2005 to 2011 Lombard was managing director of the Swiss Chess Federation (SSB).

Private

Lombard studied mathematics at the University of Bern . He works as a freelance computer scientist . The now divorced marriage resulted in a daughter (* 1986) and a son (* 1984).
