André (also: André - Die kleine Robbe , original title Andre ) is an American children's and animal film from 1994. The literary film adaptation was based on the novel A Seal Called Andre by Harry Goodridge and Lew Dietz . The story is based on a true story.

action

A seal becomes an orphan after its mother is killed in a fishing net. Harbourmaster Harry Whitney finds the animal and nurses it back to health at home. The whole family takes the little seal in their hearts. You give him the name André. 7-year-old Toni plays a lot with the little seal and can teach her many tricks. The media became aware of this and soon many tourists were coming to the small fishing village of Rockport.

But the fishermen are not enthusiastic about it. They blame the seals for the poor catch results. They inform the authorities so that the seal can be picked up because of inappropriate animal husbandry. First of all, the harbor master can get a reprieve from the authorities until André is fully grown.

After the harbor froze over in winter and André almost died, he is taken to an aquarium. From there he is eventually released. But the seal swims straight back to Rockport to the Whitney family. Finally, the fishermen's relationship with the seal improves when she saves Toni's life.

André spends every winter in the aquarium from now on and swims with the Whitney family every spring for the next 25 years.
