Andrea Roth (born January 10, 1953 in Dresden ) is a German politician ( Die Linke ). She was a member of the Saxon state parliament from 1994 to 2014 .

Life

After graduating from high school in Erfurt in 1971 , Andrea Roth studied German and Russian at the Erfurt University of Education , now part of the University of Erfurt . In 1975 she completed her studies as a certified teacher and worked until 1992 at various polytechnic schools in Zschortau , Klingenthal , Hammerbrücke and Morgenröthe-Rautenkranz . From 1992 to 1994 Roth worked as a teacher at the Tannenbergsthal Middle School .

Andrea Roth is married and has three sons, three granddaughters and one grandson.

politics

Roth was a member of the SED from 1971 , then the PDS, and from June 2007 the Left Party. Between 1989 and 1993 Roth was chairwoman of the Klingenthal district association of the PDS, and from 1990 to 1992 a member of the PDS national board. From 2003 to 2005 she was chairwoman of the PDS district association Vogtland - Plauen . Roth has been a councilor in Tannenbergsthal and Muldenhammer since 1994, and from 1994 to 2010 she was also a district councilor in the Vogtland district .

Roth had been a member of the Saxon State Parliament since October 1994. She always entered the state parliament via her party's state list . In the 4th legislative period (2004 to 2009) she was a member of the Landtag Presidium. In the third and fourth legislative periods she was a member of the committees for school and sport, for the environment and agriculture, and a member of the second committee of inquiry in the fourth electoral term. In the 5th legislative period, Roth was a member of the committees for the environment and agriculture, as well as in the evaluation committee and until January 2013 deputy chairwoman of the 1st committee of inquiry. Within her parliamentary group, Andrea Roth was one of the deputy chairpersons and deputy parliamentary manager in the 3rd and 4th electoral terms. She was a spokesperson for direct democracy and a citizen affairs officer.

On May 30, 2015 she was awarded the Saxon Constitutional Medal by the President of the State Parliament Matthias Rößler "for her services to political participation and direct democracy" .
