Andreas Goldbeck

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Andreas Goldbeck , also Anders Goldbeck , Andres Goltbeck or Andreas Goltheck (* 15th or 16th century; † in the 16th century) was an early book printer who can be traced back to Braunschweig around 1539 .

life and work

Nothing is known about Goldbeck's origin, activity before and whereabouts after 1539. He was probably a contemporary of the book printer Hans Dorn , who was also based in Braunschweig in the early 16th century and worked there from 1505 to 1530. Like other book printers of his time, Goldbeck also printed religious writings whose authors were oriented towards the Reformation (introduction of the Reformation in Braunschweig in 1528 by Johannes Bugenhagen ). Only two prints by Goldbeck seem to have survived : For example, from 1539 the sermon held in Minden How one can recognize the false prophets, yes, one preach, done in Mynden in Westphalia, through Urbanum Rhegium des in nearby Celle acting Protestant cleric Urbanus Rhegius . Printed to Brun [n] swick by Anders Goldbeck . It is a print in the standard German language . The woodcut on the title page depicts the “false prophets” in polemical form, namely two wolves dressed as canonicus and monk and attacking a sheep. Before that, Goldbeck had already brought the edification Etlike Trostspröke , which was popular at the time and was written in Low German , before the förchtsamen vnd swacken bet tho hope dorch D. Johan Briefsman , printed tho Brunswick dorch Andres Goltbeck. MDXXXIX by the evangelical theologian and reformer Johann Briesmann , who worked in Königsberg, was printed.

Goldbeck does not seem to have had an immediate successor in Braunschweig. Daniel Büring (also Byring), the closest book printer, painter and form cutter to work in the city can only be proven from 1584.
