Andreas Hohmann

Andreas Hohmann (born June 1, 1957 ) is a German sports scientist and university lecturer .

Scientific career

From 1976 to 1980, Hohmann studied sports science and English at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . He then worked as a research assistant at the University of Stuttgart until 1994 and completed his doctoral thesis and then his habilitation in Mainz during this time . In 1994 Hohmann was Professor of Theory and Practice of Sports at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg .

Between 1999 and 2005 he held a professorship for training and movement science at the University of Potsdam . In 2005 he moved to Bayreuth and attended the local university to the Chair of Training and Movement Science.

From 2007 to 2013 Hohmann was a board member of the German Association for Sports Science (DVS). As early as 1995 he took over the post of spokesman for the DVS Training Science section. Between 2004 and 2007, Hohmann was a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Sports Confederation , from 2013 to 2016 he was a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German National Anti-Doping Agency and from 2014 to 2017 of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Federal Institute for Sports Science . In 1995 he was accepted into the science and training committee of the German Swimming Association.

Hohmann's sports science research focuses on the fields of training and movement science. Among other things, he dealt with the topics of talent research, training control and competition diagnostics. In addition to water polo and other sports games, swimming was always the focus of his research. Together with Michael Kolb and Klaus Roth he published the “Handbuch Sportspiel”, in 2002 he was one of the editors with Ditmar Wick and Klaus Carl of the book “Talent in Sport” published in the series of the Federal Institute for Sport Science.

Athletic career

Hohmann played from 1979 to 1981 for SC Wasserfreunde Fulda and SSV Esslingen in the water polo league . He had three terms as coach of the Cannstatt 1898 swimming club and the Wasserfreunde Fulda swimming club in the Bundesliga (1983 to 1989; 1991 to 1994; 2013 to 2015). In 1987 and 1988, Hohmann was an assistant coach on the staff of the German national water polo team and in this role took part in the 1987 European Championships and the 1988 Olympic Games .
