Andreas Prüstel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Andreas Prüstel (born September 10, 1951 in Leipzig ; † August 23, 2019 in Berlin ) was a German collagist and cartoonist .

Life

Andreas Prüstel was a trained concrete worker , but between 1968 and 1985 he also worked as a track builder , stoker , newspaper delivery man and technical and cartographic draftsman . During this time he made collages on a regular basis, but his breakthrough as an artist was initially denied. For example, his admission to the Leipzig College of Graphics and Book Art failed because Prüstel's works, which were strongly influenced by surrealism , were too “ individual ” for the professors . From 1976 to 1977 he then attended evening school at the University of Graphic Art and Book Art in Leipzig. After several exhibitions , he was finally allowed to join the Association of Fine Artists in 1988 and was thus entitled to officially work as a freelance artist in the GDR .

Andreas Prüstel had his first publications after the fall of the Wall . Since then, Prüstel's collages and cartoons have appeared regularly in the Berlin street newspaper strassenfeger , in Eulenspiegel and in Zitty .

Andreas Prüstel leaves two daughters.
