Andreas Schickentanz

Andreas Schickentanz (* 1961 in Dortmund ) is a German jazz and improvisation musician ( trombone ).

Live and act

Schickentanz only turned to the trombone at the age of 18. In parallel to classical lessons, he initially dealt with jazz as an autodidact . After two solo prizes at Jugend jazzt (1982, 1984), he was accepted into the NRW Youth Jazz Orchestra . He studied with Jiggs Whigham at the Cologne University of Music and Dance .

His debut album Flat Earth News was created in 1999 with the Schickentanz Quintett . Between 2005 and 2009 he lived in Brussels, where he directed the Schickentanz New Quintet and performed with Belgian musicians such as Michel Paré, Fred Delplancq, Eve Beuvens, Unit 7 and the JazzStation Big Band .

In 2010 he founded his formation Andreas Schickentanz & Refugium , with which he recorded the CD Chimera for JazzHausMusik in 2013 ; His solo CD Axiom was released on the same label in 2015 .

Schickentanz also worked with the WDR Big Band Cologne , the NDR Big Band and the hr Big Band . He performed with Slide Hampton , Claudius Valk , Matthias Nadolny , David Friesen , Lee Konitz , David Liebman , Norbert Stein , Markus Stockhausen , Darcy James Argue , Pedro Giraudo , Gwilym Simcock and Nils Wogram . He can also be heard on albums with Paul Heller , the Cologne Contemporary Jazz Orchestra , the Frank Reinshagen Big Band, the King of Swing Orchestra and the RTL Big Band .
