Andreas Schwab (born April 9, 1973 in Rottweil ) is a German politician. He is a member of the CDU's European Parliament for Baden-Wuerttemberg in the European People's Party and district chairman of the CDU South Baden.

Life and education

After graduating from the Albertus-Magnus-Gymnasium in Rottweil in 1992, he completed his community service . From 1993 to 1995 he studied law at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau . In 1996, thanks to a scholarship from the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, he studied in Sciences Po Paris , where he obtained a study certificate in political and economic sciences, the “Certificat d'études politiques”. In 1998, because of his commitment to German-French relations, he was nominated for the election of “ Young European of the Year ” and received a grant from the Heinz Schwarzkopf Foundation.

In 1999 he passed the first state examination in law at the University of Freiburg . In 2000 he obtained a Master of Laws degree from the University of Wales .

In 2002 the doctorate to Dr. iur. with Thomas Würtenberger at the University of Freiburg and in 2003 the second state examination in law.

From 2002 to 2003 Andreas Schwab was a member of the “European Convention” working group of the State Ministry of Baden-Württemberg and then until 2004 a government assessor for fundamental issues of the Minister in the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport Baden-Württemberg .

Since 2004, he has a license as a lawyer . He works as of counsel in the German law firm CMS Hasche Sigle .

Political résumé

Andreas Schwab has been politically active since his youth and began his political work at the Junge Union Rottweil, where he was elected local (1991–1992) and district chairman (1992–1994). From 1994 to 1996 he was a member of the district board of the Junge Union, 1996 to 1998 a member of the regional board of the Junge Union Baden-Württemberg and 1998 to 2003 deputy chairman of the district association of the Junge Union Südbaden. Between 1999 and 2003 he was also an active member of the Young Christian Democrats for the Upper Rhine region.

He has been a member of the CDU Rottweil since 1989 and an elected member of the district committee of the CDU Rottweil (2001–2006), since 2005 a member of the district committee of the CDU South Baden. Schwab has been district chairman there since 2017.

Andreas Schwab has been a member of the European Parliament since 2004 , and in May 2019 he was again elected to the European Parliament from third place on the CDU state list Baden-Württemberg.

Schwab is on the state list of the CDU Baden-Württemberg (3rd place) elected MP for the administrative district of Freiburg, southern Baden. He maintains a constituency office in Freiburg, and a citizens' office together with the CDU member of the German Bundestag ( MdB ) and chairman of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group Volker Kauder and the CDU member of the Baden-Württemberg state parliament ( MdL ) Stefan Teufel in Rottweil .

Schwab is u. a. Member of the European Internet Foundation , the Transatlantic Policy Network , the Europa-Union parliamentary group European Parliament and member of the Kangaroo Group , a think tank and a lobby organization based in Brussels.

As a member of parliament, Schwab communicated via new media early on. In the 2004 European election campaign, his homepage received a top spot among German MEPs in a comparison test by europa-digital.de. Schwab also uses social networks, such as B. Facebook.

Other offices

Schwab is a member of the Advisory Board of the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg. He is a volunteer, u. a. as a member of the board of trustees of the Friends of Cancer Children eV in Freiburg as well as a member of the board of trustees of the German Childhood Cancer Care Foundation - Foundation for the chronically ill child , and as chairman of the Advisory Board of the Schwarzwald-Baar Hospice Foundation.

Schwab is married and has four children.
