Andreas Steppan

Andreas Steppan (born June 15, 1959 in Linz , Upper Austria ) is an Austrian actor , singer and entertainer . He became known to a broader public through his TV appearances on ORF as SelfMan , the nation's DIY enthusiast , from 1991 to 2000. Since January 28, 2009, he was back in this role. Selfman was now broadcast on ORF every two weeks on Wednesdays.

Live and act

After graduating from high school in 1977, Steppan completed an apprenticeship at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna . This was followed by singing and acting classes in the USA from 1979 to 1980.

TV and television

In the ORF talent show The Big Chance , he had his first appearance with a parody of Sammy Davis Jr.

From 1983 Steppan played in numerous film and television roles, such as Eine paleblaue Frauenschrift (Director: Axel Corti ), Ach, Boris (Director: Niki List, 1991) and Fahrt in die Hauptstadt (Director: Wolfram Paulus, 1991) and topless ( Director: Reinhard Schwabenitzky , 3rd season 2007 and 4th season 2008). Until 2009 he worked on the ORF radio show "Gugelhupf" (ö1).

Steppan has a longstanding collaboration as an actor with the director Gabriel Barylli in TV productions such as Price of Innocence (TV, 1998), I Buy Me a Man (1999), Enemy Sisters (2000), A Great Love (2001), Lawyer of Hearts (2001), Journey of the Heart (2001).

From 1988 to 1996 Steppan was seen on German television as the singing "Ültje man" in the commercials of the Ültje company .

Theater and musical

Since 1982 he has played in Viennese theaters such as Theater an der Wien , the Theater der Jugend , the Theater in der Josefstadt , the Wiener Kammerspiele , the "Kleine Komödie" and the Viennese cabaret Simpl .

In 1998 he was seen in the successful musical High Society in the Vienna Metropol in the role of "Frank Sinatra". In 2008, Steppan played the role of "Bing Crosby" in the same musical at the Baden City Theater .

In the Wiener Theater in der Josefstadt and its branch, the Wiener Kammerspiele , he participated in plays such as Hurra a Junge (2000), Ich liebe Dich mein Kropatschek (2002), The 7th year itch (2003), The Cactus Blossom (2006 ) and Amarone (directed by Gabriel Barylli, 2008). At the Vienna Theater Drachengasse he was seen in the production “Cosmetics of Evil” (2006).

In 2006/2007 he performed the cabaret play Zwangspause with Wolfgang Pissecker in Austria .

From 2006 he was the artistic director of the Mödlinger Komödienspiele (which existed from 1994 to 2010/11) together with Gabriel Barylli , where he staged the American comedy hit Californian Suite (director: Nicole Fendesack) in the Stadttheater Mödling in the 2009 summer season .

Since September 2017 he has been playing the role of Wolfgang Edler in the jukebox musical I am from Austria .

Entertainment, singing and readings

Since 1985 he has been an entertainer and singer at galas with his own show and band, as a solo artist he holds readings and acts as a presenter of many events.

In 2014, he was seen with his program Gravity, Left Drivers and Other Annoyances as part of the Hyundai Cabaret Days on ORF.
