Andreas Strobl studied philosophy and theology at the Benedictine University in Salzburg from 1660 , was ordained priest in 1666 and then worked as a cooperator in Waging am See . In 1673 he joined the collegiate monastery in Laufen and in 1695 came to Buchbach as a pastor from St. Jakob.

Strobl's work comprises over a dozen, mostly multiple, books on edification and sermon collections on Sundays and public holidays that were published by various publishers and some were published posthumously . Strobl's extensive sermon cycles - made accessible through registers - served as auxiliary books for other pulpit speakers as well as edifying and entertainment reading for private use. "S. clearly expressed his closeness to his audience in his self-characterization as 'a black Bauren-Ambsel' (Another basket full of Oster-Ayr, 1698, preface)." His success as a preacher and writer was based on the successful combination of moral and religious instruction and entertaining storytelling. He is considered to be the “narrator in the pulpit” ( Elfriede Moser-Rath ) with the most history in the baroque era. The Brothers Grimm used his stories for their “children's and household tales”.
