Andreas Vestner

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Andreas Vestner (born September 5, 1707 in Nuremberg ; † March 12, 1754 ibid ) was a German medalist and die cutter .

Life

Vestner was born as the son of die cutter and medalist Georg Wilhelm Vestner (1677–1740). He learned the profession of his father, who was one of the most important medalists in southern Germany. He was initially an assistant and from 1726 a partner in his father's workshop. Both created numerous works together, so that today it is difficult to distinguish who can be attributed which work.

Like his father, Andreas Vestner became a medalist and stamp cutter for the city of Nuremberg as well as an episcopal Würzburg and electoral Bavarian court and chamber medalist. He signed his works differently. This is how the signatures VESTNER IUN appear. (Vestner Junior), A.VESTNER (Andreas Vestner) or just V or Vestner , the latter he used almost exclusively after his father's death in 1740.

Andreas Vestner died on March 12, 1754, at the age of 46, in his native Nuremberg.
