Andrei Ivanovich Scholuch

Andrei Iwanowitsch Scholuch (born November 29, 1895 in Reshetylivka , Poltava Governorate , Russian Empire , † January 9, 1979 in Düsseldorf ) was the founder and long-time director of the Ural Cossack Choir .

Andrei Scholuch was the son of the merchants Ivan Ivanovich and Irina Pelagia Scholuch . After finishing high school , Scholuch took up the officer career and underwent training at the War Academy in Perm . Scholuch then served as a young lieutenant on the Western Front near Lemberg . During the Russian Civil War he served under General Wrangel and was promoted to first lieutenant in 1919 . The following year he emigrated to Gallipoli , where his troops were reorganized to fight marauding red sailors. In 1921 he was taken to an internment camp in Alexandria . After his release, Scholuch went to Paris , where he initially worked in an automobile factory. In his spare time he worked on founding the Ural Cossack Choir, with which he went on tour for the first time in 1924, which took him to Spain, France, Portugal, Benelux, Italy, Switzerland, Austria and Germany. The seat of the choir then also became Germany. After the dissolution in 1972, Scholuch devoted himself to Orthodox church music until his death .
