Andrew David Lapthorne (born October 11, 1990 in Middlesex ) is a British wheelchair tennis player .

Career

Andrew Lapthorne suffers from infantile cerebral palsy and began wheelchair tennis full-time in 2005. He starts in the quadriplegic class .

In 2012 in London he took part in his first Paralympic Games . In doubles, he won the silver medal with Peter Norfolk after losing to David Wagner and Nick Taylor in the final . In the individual, he was eliminated in the first round.

So far, he has won a title at the Wheelchair Tennis Masters . In 2010 he prevailed with Peter Norfolk in the double final against David Wagner and Nick Taylor. A second finals in doubles followed in 2014. In singles he was in the finals in 2011 and 2012: In 2011 he lost to Noam Gershony in three sets, in 2012 he lost to David Wagner in two sets. At Grand Slam tournaments , he has so far won one title in singles and seven more in doubles. In singles he won the US Open in 2014 , in doubles he won the Australian Open five times from 2011 to 2017, the French Open in 2012 and the US Open in 2017 .

In the world rankings, he achieved his best placement in singles with second place on August 16, 2010 and first place in doubles on January 31, 2011.
