Andrei Olegowitsch Makarow ( Russian Андрей Олегович Макаров , English transcription: Andrei Olegovich Makarov ; born April 20, 1993 in Kazan ) is a Russian ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with HC Slovan Bratislava from the Slovak extra league since August 2020 .
Career
Andrei Makarow began his career in the youth division of HK Lada Tolyatti , for whose U20 team he played in the Molodjoschnaja Chokkeinaja League as a 16-year-old . In 2010 he was selected by the Lewiston MAINEiacs from the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec at the CHL Import Draft in the first round as the 30th player and moved to the northeastern United States, although he was in the same year in the KHL Junior Draft 2010 from Atlant Moskovskaya Oblast was drafted as the 25th player in the second round. After a season, his team was disbanded and Makarow moved for two years to the Western Hockey League to the Saskatoon Blades , who had drawn him as part of a dispersal draft . At the Memorial Cup 2013 he was awarded the Hap Emms Memorial Trophy as the best goalkeeper .
He then moved to the Rochester Americans in the American Hockey League , where he played until the summer of 2016, where he was mainly used in the 2013/14 season with the Fort Wayne Komets in the ECHL . On April 4, 2015, he came in the 3-0 defeat of the Buffalo Sabers , whose farm team are the Americans, against the New York Islanders for his first NHL mission. In 2016 he moved to the newly founded Chinese KHL club Kunlun Red Star . He stayed there for a year and then moved to league rivals Neftechimik Nizhnekamsk . After another year at Awtomobilist Yekaterinburg and a brief stint at Buran Voronezh , the goalkeeper spent the 2019/20 season at the Latvian KHL club Dinamo Riga . For the following game year Makarow joined the Slovak capital club HC Slovan Bratislava from the Slovak extra league .
International
Andrei Makarow represented his home country in the junior division at the U20 World Championships in 2012 and 2013 . He won the silver medal with the Sbornaja in 2012 and the bronze medal in 2013.
