Andri Mar Helgason (born December 11, 1995 ) is an Icelandic ice hockey player who has been playing for Ísknattleiksfélagið Björninn in the Icelandic ice hockey league again since 2015 .

Career

Andri Helgason began his career as a hockey player with Ísknattleiksfélagið Björninn in the capital Reykjavík , for whom he made his debut in the Icelandic league in the 2010/11 season . Just one season later , he became the Icelandic national champion with the club . From that season he played in addition to his appearances in the first team also in the newly formed second team of the club, which is called Hunar and whose captain he was in the 2012/13 season. In 2014 he ventured to North America in the Canadian Junior League GMHL, where he was on the ice for the Almaguin Spartans for a year. He then returned to Ísknattleiksfélagið Björninn.

International

In the junior division, Andri Helgason played at the U18 World Championships in 2011 in Division III and 2012 in Division II as well as in the U20 World Championships in 2012 in Division III, when he was voted the best player in his team, in 2013 , 2014 and 2015, respectively Division II.

Andri Helgason made his debut in the men's national team at the age of 18 at the 2014 World Cup in the A group of Division II, where he and the Icelanders finished second behind the Estonian selection . He also played with the Northmen in Division II in 2015 and 2016. He also represented his colors at the qualifying tournament for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang .

In addition to his active career, he is already working as a coach and was assistant coach for the Icelandic youngsters in Division I at the U18 World Cup in 2016 .
