Anel Raskaj (born August 19, 1989 in Prizren , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Swedish football player . The midfielder , who has lived in Sweden since 2003, has been under contract with FC Prishtina in the Kosovar capital Pristina since summer 2017 .
Career
Raskaj lived in his hometown Prizren until he was 14 years old and played there in the youth of KF Liria . In 2003 he moved to Sweden with his family. There he joined the youth team of IF Leikin , but his talent was quickly discovered by the higher-class club Halmstads BK and after a few months he joined the club.
Raskaj went through the individual youth teams of his new club. At a youth tournament in France he was named the best player. He turned down an offer from a French club to sign him and signed a long-term contract with his Swedish club. Previously, he had already been considered several times in the squad of the Allsvenskan team as a young player and had made his debut as a substitute in autumn 2007 in a game against Kalmar FF in the top Swedish division. The club then finally took him to the professional squad for the 2008 season . On the side of Mikael Rosén , Ajsel Kujovic , Magnus Bahne and Tomas Žvirgždauskas , he quickly established himself as a regular in midfield and contributed to reaching eighth place in the table with 27 games this season.
Raskaj's talent did not go unnoticed by the people in charge of Svenska Fotbollförbundet . However, since he cannot obtain Swedish citizenship before 2011, the selection coach of the Swedish U-21 selection Jörgen Lennartsson could not nominate him for the 2009 U-21 European Championship . The Albanian federation Federata Shqiptare e Futbollit also approached him after his good performance, but he refused to play for the Albanian national team. Still undecided whether he should play his national team career for Sweden or Kosovo, he played for the first time in an unofficial friendly match for the unrecognized Kosovar selection against the club team Kalmar FF in the summer of 2009 .
Meanwhile with the number "10" on his back , Raskaj played all 30 games of the season in the 2009 season and was therefore an important support in the relegation battle. With his game-winning goal in the 1-0 away win against reigning champions Kalmar FF, he also scored his first league goal for the club. In 2010 he became the team captain of the Kosovar team, which is neither a FIFA nor a UEFA member. In July, he finally declared on the website of his club to have chosen a national team career in Kosovo, but wanted an emergence of Sweden - in particular with regard to the U-21 team in a possible qualification for the U-21 European Championship in 2011 not - completely exclude. He was part of the squad for Kosovo's first unofficial international match against a FIFA member on March 5, 2014. The friendly against Haiti ended 0-0.
