Anna Zozulia ( Ukrainian Анна Зозуля ; born March 10, 1980 ) is a Ukrainian - Belgian chess player and received the title of Women's Grand Master (WGM) in 2000 . She has been an International Master (IM) since 2004 .

Anna Zozulia is married to Grand Master Wadym Malachatko . Since January 2007 both have been playing for the Belgian Chess Federation.

She learned to play chess when she was seven. She was multiple medalist at the Ukrainian Youth Championships of different age groups, including six gold medals. Between 1993 and 1999 she won a gold medal in Cala Galdana 1996 (World Cup under 16 years) and two silver medals ( Verdun 1995 under 16 and Mureck 1998 under 18) at World Championships and European Championships for women .

In 1998 she was runner-up in Ukraine. In 2003 she won the title of Champion of Kiev . In 2004 she met the standards for the International Master in open tournaments in Condom , La Fère and Marseille . In the strong ZMD-Open 2007 in Dresden she was third behind Robert Kempiński and Ehsan Ghaem Maghami , among others together with Alexander Graf , Alexander Naumann , Wladimir Jepischin , Wadym Malachatko and Tomasz Markowski . She won the Belgian women's championship in her only participation in 2011 in Westerlo .

Anna Zozulia has led the Belgian women's Elo rankings by a clear margin since she changed associations.She achieved her best place in the women's world rankings in October 2004 when she was 43rd in the FIDE women's world rankings with her highest Elo number of 2412 and was fifth in the Ukrainian women's rankings.

Team chess

With Belgium Zozulia took part in the women's chess Olympiad in 2012 and in the women's team championship in 2013 .

She played club chess in the Ukrainian team championship in 1999 in an all- women team at the Grandmaster School in Kiev and in 2000 for a women's team at the AVMomot Chess Club Donetsk Region . At the European Club Cup in 1997 she took part in the open class with the Law Academy Kharkiv . In the women's competition of the European Club Cup Zozulia took part in 1998 and 1999 with the Grandmaster School Kiev , 2000 with Donbass Alchevsk . She reached second place with the team in 1998, third place in 1999 and 2000, in the individual ranking she achieved the third best result in 1999 and the second best result on the third board in 2000. In Division 1 of the Belgian Interclubs Zozulia played in the 2007/08 season for Vliegend Peerd Bredene , who won the Belgian team championship that year, and in the 2011/12 season for Koninklijke Brugse Schaakkring , in the first German women's chess division from 2011 to 2014 for SV Mülheim-Nord . In 2012 she played for WASKO HetMaN Szopienice in the Polish team championship .
