from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Anne-Mie van Kerckhoven (born December 5, 1951 in Antwerp ) is a Belgian artist. Her work includes drawings, music, painting, computer and video art .

Life

Kerckhoven (which is abbreviated to AMVK) studied graphic design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. In the 1970s she was part of the Belgian underground scene and tested the limits of current art in her performances, drawings, music and texts. In 1981 she founded the industrial band Club Moral with Danny Devos . In 2003, she received the award Prize for Visual Arts and the price of the Flemish Community in the field of visual arts.

From 2006 she was a guest of the DAAD's Berlin artist program . In 2007 she continued her musical development as part of the Bum Collar project. In 2009 she was shown with the exhibition Nothing More Natural in Lucerne , Brussels , Carquefou and Nuremberg .

Kerckhoven lives and works in Antwerp and Berlin .

In her great graphic work, the female body is often the focus. In her films she often uses her drawings, but also pictures of pin-up girls, alienates colors and collages. Other films combine different views of an event (a dance, a walk through a house) by copying two or three separately recorded films.

Music and sounds play an important role in their films. Often the films as background projection for a performance or for the performance of their music groups (are club morale , Bum Collar ) thought and were in a loop ( Loop designed).

Her work reflects philosophical, technological and social concepts and confronts her with her critical position, which was shaped by the spirit of the 1968 movement .

Most recently she worked on a kind of visual trialogue, influenced by the mystic Marguerite Porete , the hermetic Giordano Bruno - both sentenced to death at the stake for their ideas, and the philosopher Herbert Marcuse . The Artforum reminds her work of channeling divergent influences and their stylistic fusion of Valentine de Saint-Point , author of the Futurist Manifesto of Lust and sees Van Kerckhoven as a feminist futurist .
