Anneliese Zänsler

Barbara Helene Anneliese Zänsler (born March 1, 1927 in Cämmerei ) is a German opera and operetta singer (soprano), vocal teacher and musicologist .

Life

Anneliese Zänsler was born in Cämmerei (now part of Brandis near Leipzig ) as the daughter of the mining engineer Georg Zänsler. She attended the von Steybersche Higher Girls' School in Leipzig and after its dissolution the business school in Leipzig. After completing her secondary school diploma due to the war in 1944 because she was called up for the Reich Labor Service , she returned to the business school in 1945 and passed the regular high school diploma the following year.

From 1948 to 1951 she studied singing at the Leipzig University of Music , a. a. with chamber singer Margarete Bäumer. In 1951 she was engaged as a dramatic opera singer at the Meiningen Theater , where she made her debut as Marta in the opera " Tiefland ". The roles of Agathe in “ Freischütz ”, Bersi in “ Andrea Chénier ” and Aida followed.

After the divorce from her first husband, she returned to the stage in 1955 and was engaged as a soloist in the dramatic field and as an operetta diva at the Landestheater Halle , and in 1956 at the Hans Otto Theater in Potsdam . From 1957 to 1959 she worked as an opera singer at the stages of the city of Magdeburg , since 1959 at the municipal theaters of Karl-Marx-Stadt ( Chemnitz ). From there she was appointed first operetta singer at the Dresden State Operetta in 1962 . Since 1966 she has worked as a freelance artist and has made guest appearances in almost all theaters in the former GDR and as a concert singer with numerous symphony orchestras in Germany and abroad over the next two decades . She was particularly valued for her ability to jump into leading roles at short notice, where she was able to rely on her large repertoire of 58 opera and operetta roles.

1986/87 she worked in the function of chief dramaturge and deputy artistic director at the district theater in Döbeln .

From 1965 to 1968 she began evening studies at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden , which she completed with the state examination as a singing teacher. The topic of her diploma thesis was: "The importance of historical singing methods for contemporary singers". In 1983 she did her doctorate at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg with Walther Siegmund-Schultze in musicology on "The town music in Pirna - From the beginnings of the town piping to the collapse of the town band in 1907". In doing so, she laid down the results of the research she had carried out since 1977.

She still passes on her many years of experience as a singer to numerous singing students today. In her publications she deals specifically with bourgeois musical life in the Saxon region.

Anneliese Zänsler was married to the conductor and composer Klaus Zoephel from 1971 until his death in 2017 . She has lived in Ingolstadt since 1995 .
