Annette Treibel-Illian (as the author Annette Treibel , born August 6, 1957 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is Professor of Sociology at the Institute for Transdisciplinary Social Science at the Karlsruhe University of Education .

Biography and scientific work

Annette Treibel studied German, political science and social sciences at the Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen and at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum . There, she earned her doctorate 1987. 1994 Habilitation it at the Ruhr-University Bochum. Since 1996 she has been a professor in the sociology department of the Institute for Transdisciplinary Social Science at the Karlsruhe University of Education.

Her main research interests are sociological theories, migration , gender research , civilization theory (or process sociology by Norbert Elias ) and public sociology .

She was a member of the editorial board of Norbert Elias ' Collected Writings , of which she was director from 2003 to 2005. She edited individual volumes herself. Together with Helmut Kuzmics and Reinhard Blomert she is the editor of the Figurationen series . Writings on civilization and process theory , in which 13 titles have appeared so far.

She is a member of the council of the German Society for Sociology (membership periods from 2009 to 2013 and since 2017). From 2011 to 2015 she was the spokesperson for the Migration and Ethnic Minorities Section at the German Sociological Society (DGS). She has been a member of the Council for Migration since 2011 . From February 2019 to June 2020, Treibel is a member of the Federal Government's expert commission on the framework conditions for the ability to integrate .

Public Sociology

Since 2012, Treibel has been advocating greater involvement of sociology in public opinion-forming processes, as it is responsible for "the professional analysis of social structures and processes".

In her popular science book Integriert sich! In a plea for a self-confident immigration country , Treibel describes integration “as a project for everyone”, i. H. for “new Germans” with a migration background as well as for “old Germans” without a migration background. So far, a "silent integration" has largely taken place in Germany , which has produced countless "model foreigners" - in education, work, politics and even in cabaret - and has caused the proportion of the population with a migration background to rise almost unnoticed (according to the Federal Statistical Office 2015 at 21 %). Because of the "largely inconspicuous integration of immigrants" she pleads for more self-confidence . As a counter-accent to the debate critical of integration that has arisen for several years, she would like to focus on "those who refuse to integrate without a migration background" who are critical or even ambivalent about the integration project and the "new Germans" due to the "changed hierarchies in Germany today".

On the occasion of a conference on integration in Rostock , she suggested looking for a conversation with this group about the new "normality" and offering "courses on imparting knowledge" for everyone who "feels a need for information".
