life and work

Dale Biddle received her bachelor's degree from the University of California in 1908 and received her doctorate in 1911 as the first woman in mathematics under Derrick Norman Lehmer at the University of California with a dissertation: Constructive Theory of the Unicursal Plane Quartic by Synthetic Methods. From 1911 to 1912 she was a lecturer in mathematics at the University of Washington . In 1912 she married Wilhelm Samuel Andrews, with whom she had a daughter and a son. Between 1915 and 1932 she was a temporary lecturer in mathematics at the University of California . In 1933 she was dismissed from teaching when the mathematics department was reorganized. Also in 1933, she presented a research paper at a meeting of the American Mathematical Society in Palo Alto , California.
