António Freitas (born November 10, 1977 in Baucau , East Timor ) is an East Timorese civil servant and university professor.

Freitas graduated from the Indonesian Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM) in Bandung and received a master's degree from the Universidade Katólika Parahyangan in Bandung. As part of the security sector reform in East Timor, Freitas attended a course in Munich for a month and also received a certificate from Universidade Katólika Parahyangan for attending a counter-terrorism course. In addition, Freitas received diplomatic training at UNIKOM and training in international maritime law UNCLOS at Shanghai University . He also took a course on safety at sea in Hawaii .

In 1999 Freitas worked as a translator for the United Nations Mission in East Timor (UNAMET) in Laga and in 2000 in the entire Baucau district for the United Nations Interim Administration for East Timor (UNTAET). In 2001, Freitas became Deputy Electoral Officer for the East Timor presidential elections in 2002 and Head of the Election Commission of the Laga polling stations for the 2001 parliamentary elections . In 2002 he was also an electoral assistant for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). In 2005 he worked in humanitarian operations in Aceh after the great earthquake and tsunami in 2004 . In 2010 Freitas worked for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and in 2011 he worked on security sector reform in East Timor. From 2012 to 2014 Freitas benefited from a scholarship in Australia and New Zealand . Since 2013 he has been a lecturer in international relations at the Universidade Nasionál Timór Lorosa'e (UNTL).

In the parliamentary elections in East Timor in 2017 , Freitas ran for the Partidu Libertasaun Popular (PLP) in 13th place on the list, but missed entry into the national parliament .

On October 24, 2017, Freitas was elected Commissioner of the Comissão da Função Pública (CFP, German  Commission of the Public Service ) by the national parliament. He was a candidate of the opposition parties CNRT , PLP and KHUNTO and received all 35 votes from them, whereby Maria Filomena Martins Exposto, the candidate of the minority government of FRETILIN and PD, failed. She received only 29 votes. On November 20, 2017, Freitas was sworn in as CFP commissioner. He replaced Maria Olandina Isabel Caeiro Alves , who became East Timor's ambassador to Malaysia .
