Antequera (comarca)

The comarca Antequera is one of the six comarcas in the province of Málaga . Like all comarcas in the autonomous community of Andalusia , it was established with effect from March 28, 2003. The comarca only has the function of planning regions for tourism and the development of sports facilities.

The comarca in the north of the province comprises 21 municipalities with 117,356 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2013), i.e. about 7% of the province's population. Around a third of the population comes from the name-giving city of Antequera .
