Anthonius von Werthern , also Anton von Werther (n) , (* before 1483; † 1513 ) was a German local politician.

Life

The son of Hans von Werthern auf Thalheim was councilor of Count Heinrich zu Stolberg , court marshal and councilor (1483) to elector Johann von Brandenburg , councilor (1502) to elector Joachim von Brandenburg and (1490, 1507) councilor to archbishop Ernst von Magdeburg.

Werthern mainly worked for the Counts of Stolberg, to whom he had already lent 1,300 Rhenish guilders in January 1482, for which he had received an annual pension of 82 guilders from Riethnordhausen and Edersleben .

In 1488 and 1489 he was named as the Count's Stolberg Council and appeared between 1489 and 1502 as the Count's Marshal, captain or bailiff of Wernigerode .

On May 1, 1490, Anthonius von Werthern received from Archbishop Ernst von Magdeburg the castle and village of Langenstein along with accessories (including the Brockenstete, Merkerfelde and Erxstete desolations ) for the borrowed sum of 2137 Rhenish guilders 6 half-city shillings and 10 old groschen as pledge.

In 1493 he received from Count Heinrich d. Ä. zu Stolberg 22 marks and a ton of herring from the count's village of Langeln and 2¾ marks from the village of Silstedt for borrowed 500 guilders. In addition, he received on April 9, 1504 from the aforementioned count and his son Heinrich d. J. zu Stolberg prescribed an annual pension of 72 Rhenish guilders interest from the city of Heringen / Helme for the borrowed sum of 1300 Rhenish guilders .

He was significantly involved in 1494 in the conclusion of the protective alliance between Archbishop Ernst of Magdeburg and the Dukes of Braunschweig .

Anthonius von Werthern lived in Langenstein Castle with his wife Catharina, whom he married on September 26, 1493. This marriage did not produce any children who survived the parents. However, with Anna Frölich from Wernigerode, Anthonius had the illegitimate son Andreas Anthonius von Werthern.

When the Langenstein castle and Vorwerk burned down at the beginning of the 15th century, Anthonius von Werthern took care of their reconstruction and invested a sum of 650 guilders, half of which was added to the deposit in 1507. He donated the second half to the Diocese of Halberstadt .

Shortly before his death in 1513, he lent the Count of Mansfeld 2000 Rhenish guilders, for which he received an annual interest of 120 guilders from the Arnstein office .

After his death, Dr. Valentin von Sundhausen bought Langenstein Castle in 1531 as a pledge from the Bishop of Halberstadt for the sum of 2,755 guilders, 4 shillings and 10 old groschen.
