Anthony Blanc

Anthony Blanc (born October 11, 1792 in Sury-le-Comtal , Loire Department , France , † June 20, 1860 in New Orleans , USA ) was Archbishop of New Orleans .

Life

Anthony Blanc received on 22 July 1816, the sacrament of Holy Orders . In 1817 he arrived in Annapolis , Maryland . Blanc served as a missionary in Louisiana in the years that followed . In 1831 he became Vicar General of the Diocese of New Orleans.

On June 19, 1835 Pope Gregory XVI appointed him . to the Bishop of New Orleans. The bishop of Saint Louis , Joseph Rosati CM , ordained him episcopal on November 22nd of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Mobile , Michael Portier , and the Bishop of Cincinnati , John Baptist Purcell .

On July 19, 1850, Pope Pius IX appointed him . to the Archbishop of New Orleans.
