Antidotes is the debut album by the English indie rock band Foals .

The album was released on March 24, 2008 by Transgressive Records in Great Britain , on March 28, 2008 by Warner in Germany and on April 8, 2008 by Sub Pop in the USA .

Recordings

The album was recorded in the Summer of 2007 at Stay Gold Studios in Brooklyn , produced by Dave Sittek, guitarist and keyboard player for the band TV on the Radio . However, the band was not satisfied with the recordings, to them they sounded as if the album had been recorded in the Grand Canyon , so they remixed the album again in London . Foals were criticized by fans that the two songs Hummer and Mathletics , the the band had made known were not on the album.

Reviews

The reviews for Antidotes are overall positive to enthusiastic. In particular, the band's new sound, which combines different styles of music, was well received by the critics. It says on laut.de : What is so new or suspicious of the Foals sound [...]: It is the almost ingenious game with the most diverse genres and sound quotations. A big corner of electro pop, meets rock, meets punk, funk and and and . The music is catchy and danceable and the album receives a full five out of five stars.

On intro.de the album is described as a convincing debut from start to finish, Plattentests.de cannot fully understand the hype that prevails in Great Britain, but still certifies the band a very good debut, which has high hopes for the future lets .

BBC Music decided: Believe the hype, there won't be a better British debut album this year.

successes

Antidotes rose to number three on the British album charts and was a great success. In the first week, a good 25,000 copies were sold and gold status was achieved. The album reached 28th place in the Top Heatseekers charts in the USA, but it did not make it into the US album charts. It was different in Japan (# 80), France (# 84), the Netherlands (# 99) and New Zealand (# 99). The singles Balloons (# 39), Cassius (# 26) and Red Socks Pugie (# 89) also entered the UK single charts.

Antidotes also did well in the annual charts of various music magazines . The NME sees the album at number 5, the Musikexpress at number 14 and the intro at number 9. The readers of Spex voted the album the seventh best of the year.
