Antoine de Lhoyer
Antoine de Lhoyer (born September 6, 1768 in Clermont-Ferrand , † March 15, 1852 in Paris ) was a French composer and guitarist of the early Romantic period .
Antoine de Lhoyer came from a family belonging to the landed gentry from the Auvergne . Pierre-Jean Porro was probably one of his most important teachers . His life as a soldier in the royalist armies took him to Koblenz and Vienna, among other places. He settled in Hamburg for two years in 1800, where some of his works were published. On the trip to Russia he gave a concert in Berlin in December 1802. In Saint Petersburg he worked for ten years as a composer and guitarist in the environment of the Tsar's court. Before Napoleon's Russian campaign , he returned to France.
Lhoyer left behind a considerable number of chamber music, comprising a total of 38 opus numbers; mainly these are works with guitar. Many of his works were dedicated to members of the Russian aristocracy. His works are increasingly being performed again 150 years after his death.
