Anton Johan Wrangel af Sauss was born in Stockholm on January 3, 1724. He was the son of Vice Admiral Anton Johan Wrangel and his wife Katarina Sofia Kruuse.

Anton Johan Wrangel married Countess Regina Charlotta Sparre in 1759. She was a daughter of Erik Arvid Sparre and his wife Charlotta Eleonora Siöblad. She was born in 1737 and died in 1805.

Like his father, he was made a Knight of the Royal Order of the Seraphines . Also bearer of the Grand Cross of the Order of the Sword .

Military career

Wrangel joined the Swedish Navy in 1740 as an officer candidate . Promotion to lieutenant in 1742 and lieutenant captain in 1748 . In 1749 he was appointed captain and in 1754 commander of a sea ​​squadron .

1765 Appointment as adjutant general . From 1765 to 1766 he was a liaison officer of the Admiralty in the Reichstag . In 1766 Wrangel was appointed director of the Cadet Corps. Wrangel was named Vice Admiral three years later and Schoutby Night that same year .

Ten years after the death of his father, Wrangel was appointed chief commander of Karlskrona. A year later promotion to admiral. In 1766 he became the first admiral in the Swedish Navy and commander in chief of the fleet.

After the death of Admiral General Henrik von Trolle in 1784, Wrangel was appointed Admiral General. According to Grand Admiral Duke Karl , Wrangel was the commander-in-chief of the fleet during the Battle of Hogland and averted a catastrophe for the Swedish fleet. Admiral Henrik Otto Nordenskiöld is officially listed as commander in chief of the fleet.

1790–1792 again Commander in Chief in Karlskrona and in 1794 Wrangel was appointed President of the Admiralty Council. 1797 Appointed Chairman of the Naval Affairs Committee.
