Anton Konrath

Anton Konrath (born May 14, 1888 in Innsbruck , † April 22, 1981 in Bad Ischl ) was an Austrian conductor , pianist and composer .

Life

Konrath was trained by Josef Pembaur the Elder and Franz Ludwig Marschner in Innsbruck. From 1913 to 1927 he was the conductor of the Vienna Tonkünstler Orchestra , with which he was one of the pioneers in recording orchestral performances a. a. Bruckner symphonies, but also premiered works by contemporary composers such as José Rozo Contreras , Karl Schiske , Jenő Takács and Guido Binkau (1900–1969). In 1941 he made a recording of Johann Sebastian Bach 's Concerto BWV 1043 in D minor at the Reichsender Wien .

In addition, between 1927 and 1944 he regularly conducted concerts at the Wiener Singakademie . From 1947 to 1955 he was permanent conductor of the Linz Concert Association and director of the Linz Conservatory. He later conducted the Graz Philharmonic .

As a composer he created a symphony , a prelude to a drama, orchestral and solo songs. He also orchestrated songs by Hugo Wolf . His compositions were destroyed in World War II.
